Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital recently presented a check to The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to support their mission to improve the quality of life for persons who are affected by mental illness.
NAMI Nevada provides education, support, and advocacy. NAMI advocates for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education and employment for people with mental illness.
“We appreciate the support of Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital,” said Robin Reedy, Executive Director of NAMI Nevada. “NAMI offers understanding to anyone concerned about mental illness and treatment. The families and members of NAMI Nevada are here to help!”
Unfortunately, Nevada ranks 50th in mental health according to a 2017 report by Mental Health America. According to NAMI, mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family.
“Our goal is to elevate the conversation regarding mental health and addiction, and we encourage everyone to support NAMI,” said Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital CEO Steve Shell. “Northern Nevada is a rapidly growing community but woefully underserved when it comes to mental health and addiction services. We want to raise the standard of care to give people another option for their treatment that has been lacking for many years.”
Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital offers free and confidential mental health and addiction assessments for adults and adolescents. Call 775-393-2201.
